Cool Mediators Foundation (Stichting Cool Mediators)
Cool Mediators Foundation (Dutch: Stichting Cool Mediators) is a non-profit organization registered with the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce.
Cool Mediators offers digital tools, practical methods, and a range of services for the facilitation of interactive public discussions and events.
Cool Mediators connects on-line debates with real-life meetings and discussions. Our on-line platform provides organizers with an elaborately designed set of tools to engage their communities and audiences in an interactive participatory process at all stages of creating a public event: preparation, execution, follow-up assessment. The Cool Mediators platform helps people to get directly involved in the collaborative production of such events content-wise. These events can be both open public happenings as well as internal or community meetings.
To achieve this the Cool Mediators platform combines on-line discussion tools, live interactive webcast interfaces connecting on- and off-line audiences, automated archiving facilities, and basic community management and moderation tools. Our platform is accessible as a regular website and as a fully functional embeddable widget that can be easily integrated in other web environments.

Vision
Cool Mediators seek to enrich communal and public communication by using advanced and efficient methods to foster peoples' participation. Our approach is based on an open collaborative mediation by means of sophisticated digital tools. Cool Mediators also provides organizations with easy and affordable solutions for managing distributed discussions involving remote participants from distant locations.
Our mission is to stimulate and practically make possible more open and fair democratic forms of public communication, where participants can not only express their opinions, but have a real opportunity to set the agenda of public debates and collaboratively program, edit and assess them.
History
The Cool Mediators Foundation was established by Tania Goryucheva and Eric Kluitenberg in 2008 in Amsterdam
The Cool Mediators on-line platform is the entirely redesigned successor of the Cool Media Hot Talk Show project - a series of interactive talk shows, where the public could propose and select the topics, speakers, questions, and determine the final scenarios of the show, as well as follow and moderate live talk show events in real time by using online tools at the project website. This project was realized in 2007 at De Balie in Amsterdam (project website: www.coolmediahottalk.net).
Authoritative commentators in various media recognized that the project effectively addressed the shortcomings of traditional approaches to public events and discussions, where a moderator or the one holding the microphone controls the show, while individuals might be willing to contribute to the dialogue, but feel impaired to do so given the setup of the event and the lack of means for participation.
Between the summer of 2008 and 2009 the development team of the Cool Mediators Foundation has been working on its new platform for distributed interactive discussions. After concluding a series of successful pilot events with various partner-organizations - with the platform still in beta - the new website and its tools were launched on September 16, 2009.
